SENCR Smooth muscle and Endothelial cell–enriched migration/differentiation-associated long NonCoding RNA
Cytoplasmic long noncoding RNA found most abundant in vascular smooth muscle cells and endothelial cells (Bell 2014) RNA-seq alignment, 5' RACE, and RT-PCR with oligo-dT and strand-specific primers established that SENCR comprises 3 exons and is transcribed in the antisense orientation from within the first intron of Friend leukemia virus integration 1 (FLI1 gene) (Bell 2014) . However, there is no overlap between SENCR and FLI1 exonic sequences,indicating that SENCR is not a natural antisense transcript (Bell 2014) .
SENCR gene is transcribed and expressed as 2 splice variants (SENCR_V1 and SENCR_V2) (Bell 2014) . Quantitative RT-PCR of SENCR_V1 and SENCR_V2 in a panel of human tissues and cell lines , shows that SENCR_V1 to be more broadly expressed than SENCR_V2 (Bell 2014) . SENCR show co expression with FLI1 gene (see above), suggesting that these transcripts may be under the same transcriptional control (Bell 2014) . Knockdown of SENCR exerts little effect on FLT1 mRNA (Bell 2014) .
Base on RNASeq experiment, knockdown of SENCR in human coronary artery smooth muscle cell (HCASMC) results in decreased expression of Mycardin and numerous smooth muscle contractile genes and an upregulation of promigratory genes are increased. (Bell 2014).

Western blot and RT-PCR assay confirms down regulation of genes involved in smooth muscle contraction - CNN1, ACTA2, TAGLN1, LMOD , upon SENCR knockdown in HCASMC (Bell 2014)

RT-PCR assay of HCASMC and HUVEC cell line shows upregulation of promigatory genes MDK and PTN upon SENCR knockdown (Bell 2014)

Boyden chamber assay and scratch wound assay demonstrated hyper-motile HCASMC with SENCR knockdown (Bell 2014)

Collectively, these data show that reduced SENCR expression compromised the SMC contractile phenotype and promoted a promigratory gene signature. (Bell 2014)
No orthologous SENCR transcripts have yet been found outside human/chimp lineages.
Prominent HUVEC-associated H3K4me3 mark near exon 1 of SENCR. (Bell 2014) . Luciferase assays showed little to no detectable SENCR promoter activity in HUVEC unless sequences encompassing the 5? FLI1 promoter region were included (Bell 2014)
